What a social game is, stated plainly

Umbra Station publishes Free Social Games, which for us amounts to a single page holding a single demo game. You arrive and you play. Nothing asks who you are. There is no account to open, no wallet to load, no feature held in reserve and no later point at which a price appears. The pieces in the gallery are counted in virtual credits, and virtual credits stop existing the moment the tab closes.

It is worth saying outright, because the form is borrowed. Cascading grids and doubling multipliers are the language of products designed to move money, and that language carries assumptions with it. None of them hold here. Nothing on this page can win you money, cost you money, or become money afterwards by any route you might try.

The nearer comparison is a working model kept under glass. The mechanism runs honestly and repeats itself exactly, and the part it models has been deliberately left out. The Total Eclipse set is drawn from the sort of instruments a viewing station would genuinely have kept in its case, and the grid holds up to as much scrutiny as you feel like giving it.

The gallery is six columns wide and five rows deep, so thirty pieces are on view at once. Five or more of the same piece touching along an edge, above, below or to either side, count as one cluster and clear together. Meeting at a corner is not touching. A diagonal never joins a cluster, which is what keeps a shape readable once the tethers are drawn over it.

A cleared cluster leaves a gap. Whatever stood above it drops, fresh pieces enter along the top row, and if the settled arrangement forms another cluster then it clears in turn with nothing further from you. A run of those is a chain.

A chain that doubles

This gallery does not step. It doubles: one, two, four, eight, sixteen, thirty-two. Six rungs, each worth twice the one before, so the difference between a two-step run and a five-step run is enormous rather than incremental. Most tracks end at the first or second rung. That is what makes the far end worth watching for.

The panel, control by control

• Stake sets how many virtual credits each track spends. The two buttons walk it through five fixed values and stop at either end.
• Hurry compresses the animation for anyone who would rather not sit through the settle.
• Track puts a fresh thirty into the gallery.
• Session Net reports the distance between what has been staked and what has come back, for this browser tab alone.

All of it runs locally in your own browser. No outcome is requested from a server, none is sent back, and a refresh clears everything.

What the counter is, and what it is not

Two thousand six hundred credits are on the counter when the page opens. A track spends some, a cluster returns some. That is the whole life of the number.

Virtual credits are not sold. This site carries no checkout, no cashier and no page that could accept a payment, and none is planned. They cannot be given away, traded or moved between accounts, because there are no accounts here and nobody to move them to. They cannot be withdrawn, converted or redeemed against cash, goods, vouchers, tokens or entry into anything at all.

They are not stored either. Nothing about a visit is written to your device or sent anywhere. Reload the page and the counter reads two thousand six hundred again, which is the clearest demonstration we can offer that it was never a balance.

Run it to zero and the game refills it unprompted. There is nothing here to lose and nothing to top up.

Self-exclusion, and the controls that do not need us

Sites in this area usually offer a self-exclusion setting that locks an account for a chosen period. We have none, for the plain reason that there is no account here to lock. What we can do instead is point you toward the controls that work whether or not a website cooperates, and those already sit on the device in front of you.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There is no registration, no form and no input field anywhere on this site asking for personal information. We do not collect your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, date of birth or payment details, because nothing on the site would have any use for them.

Game data

Your stake, your credit counter and your session totals sit in your browser's memory for as long as the tab stays open. They are never transmitted to us and never written to your device. Closing or refreshing the page discards all of it.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. It uses no local storage, no session storage and nothing comparable, and it loads no third-party scripts, fonts, analytics or advertising tags that could set one on our behalf. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. Your browser may still keep its ordinary cache of the page files, which is outside our control and holds nothing about you.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard web server request logs, which can include an IP address, a timestamp and a browser user agent string. They exist to keep the site running and secure, are not tied to any identity, and are never used to build a profile or shared for advertising.

Your rights

Since we hold no personal information about you, there is generally nothing to access, correct or delete. If you believe otherwise, write to privacy@umbrastation.com and we will respond.

Acceptable use
